Qualifications for 2008 Mayor's Cup
The Mayor's Cup will be awardrd to the fastest entrant to finish the race.
$15,000 in prize money - $5,000 goes to the Mayor's Cup winner.
Elite Open Class:
- K1- ICF K1 boats as Open Sea Kayak Class boats (Kayaks with less than a 20" beam & wing paddle)
- Surfski
- OC1
- Elite Open Tandems - OC2's, K2's and Double Surf Ski's
This class comprises of nationally ranked and/or highly competitive paddlers.
Racers must show a track record of participation in at least 2 similar distance races with completion and competitive times.
Sea Kayak Class:
Participants for this class need to qualify through regional training centers OR meet race participation guidelines.
- Open - Kayak with less than a 20" beam (wing paddle) MOVED TO ELITE OPEN CLASS
- Fast Touring - Kayak with 20" beam of greater (wing paddle)
- Touring - Kayak with 20" beam or greater and 15' (NO wing paddle)
- Touring Tandems - Tandem Sea Kayaks (NO wing paddle)
Racing participation guidelines are a history of at least 2 races of similar distances with completion and competitive times
Participants for this class need to qualify through regional training centers and demonstrate at least 5 years paddling experience, solo and assisted rescues training, demonstrated experience and exposure paddling with and against 3 knot currents, documented paddling experience on trips at least 20 miles in 7 hours.
Must demonstrate ability to paddle at 4 to 5 mph over a 5 mile distance.
Must finish the race in 7 hours of will be removed from the water.
